After chatting with User:CristianCantoro at the Barcelona hackathon, I had a crack at a web frontend for the wscontest tool. It is now online at https://tools.wmflabs.org/wscontest/
It's not quite done, there's a bunch of things to be fixed, but is functioning to some extent. I've started a list of its issues at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/tool-wscontest/
