Just a general notice for Ireland-related Wikimedia project participants: the National Library of Ireland has begun adding content to the "Commons" section of Flickr.

Do we have anyone in .ie liaising with the NLI on behalf of (whatever portion of) Wikimedia? Even to say "wonderful, please keep it up" :-)

PD, but the information page at http://www.nli.ie/en/flickr-commons.aspx makes some awkward assertions:
"The Library's photographs within The Commons have no known copyright restrictions; this means that the National Library of Ireland is not aware of any current copyright restrictions on the photographs, usually because the Library owns the copyright or the term of copyright has expired.
Images in our Commons photostream are available for research for a non-commercial purpose or private study. When using the images, please credit the National Library of Ireland and include the catalogue reference number of the item to help others access the original image or document. If you are interested in high-quality reproductions, or commercial re-use of these images please contact Copying Services." -G

I sent the following email to info@nli.ie to say 'thank you':
Hi,
I would just like to drop you a word on behalf of the Wikimedia community in Ireland. As you may know, Wikimedia is an international foundation that aims to produce high-quality, free educational content through the collaboration of tens of thousands of volunteers worldwide. The most famous example of a Wikimedia project is Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A contributor to our mailing list has pointed out the National Library of Ireland initiative to make copyright-free images from your collection easily available online through Flickr.
Thank you for doing this! These kinds of initiatives are a treasure trove for those working on Wikimedia projects. It is genuinely wonderful that the NLI is leading the way in Ireland with an initiative such as this. I can promise you that "Wikimedians" the length and breadth of Ireland and worldwide will be applying these images to good use on Wikimedia projects for years to come.
Yours, Oliver Moran
I hope this is OK with everyone here and sums up the feelings of the community.
Best, Oliver

(sorry about the belated thought)
Are there any Irish Wikimedians subscribed to the cultural-partners list, where all things GLAMourous are discussed? It looks as though the NLI is enlightened enough to explore some possible collaboration with.
Cheers,
Asaf
