images. Several have be tagged for deletion or have been deleted. RO is
running interference. For the next project we might think about placing a
banner or something on the talk page to keep that from happening again
WWI-Collins Barracks-6 December 10am-4pm. RO has schedule one short talk so
far. We have one WiFi box to use. RO will apply for a microgrant to buy our
own boxes for future use.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 9 December @ 7pm. If you would
like to attend the meeting via Google Hangouts send an email to
wikimediaireland(a)gmail.com.
Hi everyone,
Continuing with our editathon events, we are running one on Saturday 6th
December which will look at Ireland and the Irish experience of WWI. We are
delighted to hold the event in the National Museum of Ireland, Collins
Barracks, the home of the national collections relating to military
history. It promises to be a really interesting day. The Wikipedia page can
be found here
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ireland/Ireland_in_WWI_…>
.
If you can come along, lend a hand as an experienced editor, or even take
part virtually, your input would be invaluable!
Thanks,
Rebecca

Dear all,
The Applications Committee have reviewed our application for recognition as
an official Wikimedia user group (detailed here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wikimedia_Ireland_Community), with the
feedback that it is ready to go, but that we will need to adjust the name
³Wikimedia Ireland Community User Group² as the combination Wikimedia +
Country/Region is going to be reserved for chapters.
Following a meeting of the working group this evening (13th Nov) we would
like to propose an adjusted name that is more in keeping with guidelines,
but is still reflective of the group and its direction, which is ³Wikimedia
Community Ireland User Group². (A small but important switcharound!)
If you have any thoughts or comments on this, please email us at
wikimediaireland(a)gmail.com or leave a comment on the talk page above,
ideally by Thursday 20th, which is when we would like to inform the
Applications Committee of this new name if there are no objections.
Many thanks,
Sabina.

It¹s been an amazing few months seeing Wiki Loves Monuments garner support
and participation from counties right across Ireland, particularly as it is
the first year that the competition has taken place here.
The organisers of Wiki Loves Monuments Ireland would like to extend a
sincere thanks to the judges: Monika Chmierlaz, photoeditor of Blow Photo
Magazine; Ian Doyle, Head of Conservation at The Heritage Council; Kate
Horgan, Award-winning photojournalist and photoeditor; Darius Whelan, Public
Lead for Creative Commons Ireland; and Ken Williams, published photographer
on prehistoric monuments and megalithic art.

Dear all,
We have a large collection of old maps and images of Ireland
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:British_Library/Mechanical_Curat…>
that have been identified as part of an image release from the British
Library.
Currently they are on Flickr whilst we crowd source adding some metadata.
In particular we are looking for people to identify maps and plans so that
they can be georeferenced before they are added to Commons.
Volunteers to tag the maps and plans in the Irish images would be most
welcome,
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:British_Library/Mechanical_Curat…
Or just look and enjoy.

Hi all,
With over 2000 photos of Ireland¹s national monuments entered into our

time picking just 10 winning entries, but we are delighted to be announcing
those 10 well-deserving winners at an awards event taking place in Dublin
tomorrow night.
You are invited to attend the event which will take place from 6pm, at City
Assembly House, 58 South William Street, Dublin 2. We are delighted to be
partnering with the Irish Georgian Society to host the event in this
beautiful building, and refreshments will be provided.
While we can¹t share the details of the winning entries with you until
tomorrow night, we can reveal that monuments from the following counties are
represented in the judges¹ selection of winners:
DUBLIN, CARLOW, CORK CITY, LAOIS, MEATH ( x 2 winners!), OFFALY, KERRY,
TIPPERARY, WICKLOW.
All are welcome, so if you can attend, feel free to bring a friend and RSVP

Many thanks,
Sabina.
