I sent the following email to info(a)nli.ie to say 'thank you':
Hi,
I would just like to drop you a word on behalf of the
Wikimedia community in Ireland. As you may know, Wikimedia is an
international foundation that aims to produce high-quality, free
educational content through the collaboration of tens of thousands of
volunteers worldwide. The most famous example of a Wikimedia project is
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A contributor to our mailing list has pointed out the National
Library of Ireland initiative to make copyright-free images from your
collection easily available online through Flickr.
Thank you for
doing this! These kinds of initiatives are a treasure trove for those
working on Wikimedia projects. It is genuinely wonderful that the NLI is
leading the way in Ireland with an initiative such as this. I can
promise you that "Wikimedians" the length and breadth of Ireland and
worldwide will be applying these images to good use on Wikimedia
projects for years to come.
Yours,
Oliver Moran
I hope this is OK with everyone here and sums up the feelings of the community.
Best,
Oliver

Do we have anyone in .ie liaising with the NLI on behalf of (whatever
portion of) Wikimedia? Even to say "wonderful, please keep it up" :-)
