Hi!
I just wanted to send a note to make people aware of a problem that attendees may encounter: Transit Visas. I'm not sure if something has changed in 2009 or the fact that we've been booking travel, but it seems as if individuals with citizenship in some countries (so far India and Morocco, and Hong Kong) require travel visas to travel through other countries (UK and Germany, Spain, and the United States, respectively).
Please be aware if there are any Transit Visa requirements for your travel before you potentially get stuck.
Thanks

Hi, I think this should be clearly communicated to all registrants - not sure how many are subscribed here. As far as transit through the US is concerned, almost all nationalities(!) require a visa or visa waiver (mandatory pre- registration!). More details here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_4383.html
Cheers,
Christian

A large number *should* be subscribed here. On the FAQ: http://wikimania2009.wikimedia.org/wiki/FAQ
How do I get announcements about Wikimania? Watch this site or sign up for wikimania-l, a low volume mailing list for most Wikimania related issues or announcements.

Yes, we suck that way.
Does this apply if one is simply changing planes without leaving the airport?

Absolutely YES!!! I, too, have to update my ESTA information...
http://www.cbp.gov/linkhandler/cgov/travel/id_visa/esta/about_esta/esta_faq....
Q: Do nationals or citizens of countries that participate in the VWP require an ESTA™ if they are only transiting the United States en route to another country? A: Yes. The United States no longer has a Transit Without Visa program, so eligible nationals or citizens of countries that participate in the VWP will require either an ESTA™ or a visa to transit the United States. If a traveler is only planning to transit through the United States en route to another country, when he or she completes the ESTA™ application, the traveler should enter the words "In Transit" and his or her final destination location in the address lines under the heading “Address While In The United States”.
