Hi!
Will there be a formal announcement about 2 week extension on
wikimania 2009 bids?
http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikimania_2009%2FBids%2FTimelin…
I'm one of the general coordinators of Buenos Aires bid and we've had
hard work last weeks refining the bid. We expressed our concerns about
the timelime some time ago, because is a very difficult season for us:
many governmental authorities and companies directives and managers
are on holidays. So, we have been in a hurry trying to get support and
working on many bid details. Yesterday, I had to arise to draw a
budget just in the expiry date -- i've been in bed since sunday
because a food poisoning.
So, we will be very happy if moderators and jury give a final timeline
for bids to work in a better and relaxing way.

Said,
However I think you feel we have no progress on this front so I will fill
you (and everyone) in:
Thanks Muhammad,
That’s all I ask for. Someone has to be the shipmaster and I’m too old to be
subtle about finding them. You’re aware that Florence went to Davos, and
hopefully met the Library’s director. As far as my Dec. suggestion about
asking (someone like) him, and Jimmy, to do a comparison between the oldest
(continuous) western library and the newest, it might get a few creative
juices flowing (and hopefully) attract a few other national librarians. You
might even lead the librarians by showing them this UN sponsored project..
HYPERLINK
"http://www.worlddigitallibrary.org/project/english/video.html"http://www.worlddigitallibrary.org/project/english/video.html
You already have one fixed session with Sue announcing that someone from
this team would be talking about the wikisurvey. HYPERLINK
"http://ccg.merit.unu.edu/"http://ccg.merit.unu.edu/ (NB the link off to the
left). There’s a thread here between the two, though to the UN.
As another idea in trying to introduce Wikimedia’s global communities to
some semi-related others, if you click on the link down the bottom left on a
the ccg’s page, through to unu-merit, you’ll see they’re announcing that
they’ve just launched an OpencourseWare portal. I’m not sure if this is in
anyway useful – the commonality with wikmedia is that OCWC is about free
content. I just didn’t notice Egypt on their consortia’s page. HYPERLINK

temid=29"http://www.ocwconsortium.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view
&id=15&Itemid=29
It’s a bit late in the day now to attract most of the people I was hoping
for. They set their conference agenda’s late in one year for the next. So
would you mind considering the idea of linking up between a few places in
different parts of the world and Alexandria. I’ve flagged this tool, but the
bibliotech’s guys will have their own preference. HYPERLINK
"http://www.accessgrid.org/home"http://www.accessgrid.org/home The technical
stuff is pretty straight forward, but as you can imagine, it might be a bit
too much of a surprise for WMF’s communities this year. All the best.

Hi there,
Can anyone make a brief note about Wikimania for Foundation website? Like that:
Library of Alexandria to Host Wikipedia's Annual Conference in 2008
The Wikimedia Foundation announces that it will stage its 2008
Wikimania conference at the Library of Alexandria in Egypt. The event
will take place next summer. Read more or visit official site (31 Oct.
07)
currently [[Foundation:Home]] features Wikimania at the bottom. It was
actually a piece from September news but for conference advertisement,
I retarded its removal ;D But an item released on September is a bit
shabby and we may have more than just date perhaps now?
I suppose CfP is a good item ... we have updated it and included open
discussion already? Or do you have any other good item about
conference? Last year Sandy put there "call for sponsorship" too, for
example ...

Hi Guys,
Sorry to wake yu up.
Cary wrote, “.I am copying Mr. Berners-Lee to ask him to kindly please
disregard your
Email”. Sorry, if I’d known you didn’t want him to talk, I wouldn’t have
asked him.
Pheobe wrote, “There's a page to brainstorm ideas here:
HYPERLINK

Sorry. The only ideas for sessions I see here are mine, from December.
Samuel wrote, “ps - Please note : he may show up incognito even when he
declines to speak”.
Sorry, He might, Now he knows there’s something going on.
You’ll really have to forgive me. If yu are having conversations, which I
(or anyone else can’t see) I won’t know about them of course. So you’ll
understand that activity needs to be seen to be understood. I’m just used to
a culture where conversations happen above the radar. If you understand that
I’m used to producing (primarily the AV stuff for) conferences for 8,000 min
this is so very late in the day. And I’d really like to see the WMF’s
communities understand what, globally, is going on.
Sorry, simon.

Dear Tim (Berners-Lee),
I’m writing to you on behalf of the organising committee for Wikimania. This
is the annual conference for the Wikimedia Foundation. Don’t think I need to
tell yo what they do.No.8 on Alexa’s top 500.
Yes, please; a talk. Just half an hour at most. We’d (all right, I) would
really like some insight into what you where thinking when you did the first
prop to CERN’s management about your “Information Management” idea in . And
what prop you would offer them today.
The audience is WMF’s universe, which is just starting to grow now as their
Head Office have, literally, just moved to San Fran and employed a whole
bunch of new recruits. So they are really looking for some ideas about what
should be their next steps.
Alexandria’s a long way, but please don’t let that stop you. I’m sure we
could organise a link between your present (Uni) home and Egypt’s new
National Library’s auditorium. In fact I’d like to encourage it as it might
help to get the information centric to reconsider their communication’s
networking. I’m trying to see of we could strap together a
mini-megaconference. HYPERLINK
"http://digitalunion.osu.edu/megaconference/"http://digitalunion.osu.edu/meg
aconference/
And to be quite blunt, we need a headline act. (no guitar required)
If you are interested, these are some other ideas floating around the WMF
traps. HYPERLINK
"http://wikimania2008.wikimedia.org/wiki/Program_ideas"http://wikimania2008.
wikimedia.org/wiki/Program_ideas
We could see about a global workshop if you wanted to suggest something
interesting.
Appreciate your interest, and your time. If you’d like to say yea or nay,
just a reply on this list would encourage people who don’t believe God’s
talk.
Obsequiously yours,
Simon Fenton- Jones
