Heya folks,
It's time we figure out what the Main Page of Wikidata should look
like. It'd be great if you helped out with this. I've started a page
on Meta here: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikidata/Main_Page_draft
We'll copy the content of that page to Wikidata once it's live.
Go crazy and make it useful and pretty ;-)
Cheers
Lydia

Heya folks
Just sharing some awesome news with you: The Wikidata branch has been
merged. This includes somewhere around 10.000 line changes and is a
huge step towards getting Wikidata deployed.

We'll have some cake tomorrow to celebrate :D

Hi,
I wanted to make sure that the English and the Hebrew demo sites have
the same version. I can see the precise Git version of MediaWiki in
Special:Version, as well as the versions of most extensions. But the
versions of the Wikibase* extensions only appear as "Version 0.2
alpha" without the Git checkout number. Would it be possible to show
the number there, to let everybody know the precise version?

Hi,
An issue brought up in the discussion about Wikidata in the Hebrew
Wikipedia: To remove a link, you just click the "remove" link... and
that's it. Looks too easy. No asking for confirmation or anything. Is
it a good idea?

Hey,
In this commit [0] I moved the content model constants back to the repo
after they somehow found their way into lib. At the point the constants got
moved to lib, the requirements for the settings loosened slightly, so they
increase again now, and can potentially cause breakage. The change in
requirements is that the repo settings (esp those using the content model
constants) are placed after repo instead of after lib in LocalSettings.

Hey,
The DataType code that recently got merged into Wikibase now enforces
properties to have a DataType. Calling getProperty or toArray on a Property
without a DataType will get your an exception. This means that if you
created properties before the new code got introduced they will now be
invalid.

Hey i just wanted to ask if there is currently a limitation of data items
on the demo systems?
Or am I able to run my bot without caring on server issues.

Hi,
Geekiness warning: this email mentions software in general and free
software licenses in particular. It mentions them because it's a
useful example, but the ideas can be applied to many other domains.
Automatic generation of list articles is frequently named as one of
the main use cases of Wikidata. There is, however, a particular type
of list articles for which Wikidata may be even more useful:
Comparison articles. You can find many examples of these at
Category:Software comparisons in the English Wikipedia.
It can be used for comparing cars, athletes, political candidates and
many other things. I frequently use such articles to help myself
choose software that I will use. Here's what I do today to search for
software, and what I would love to see supported better using
Wikidata:
* I always prefer to try Free Software first. Today I usually go to
such an article, sort the table by the license column, and then start
comparing features that are important to me.
* Very often the different groups of features appear in different
tables, so I have to scroll up and down a lot.
* Very often I quickly narrow down my search to a small number of
products, but there's no easy way to remove the products that I
decided not to use from the view, so again I have to scroll up and
down a lot.
Doing the above using a query would be very useful. I would be able to
quickly eliminate rows (products) and columns (features) that don't
interest me.
