Dear friends and colleagues,
I’ve had the amazing privilege of serving this movement in a staff capacity for the past 4 ½ years, but I’ve now decided to move on from my role at the Wikimedia Foundation.
Transparency, integrity, community and free knowledge remain deeply important to me, and I believe I will be better placed to represent those values in a volunteer capacity at this time. I am and will always remain a Wikimedian, so you'll still see me around the projects (User:Seeeko), hopefully with renewed energy and joy in volunteering.
This movement has become my home in so many unexpected ways, and I’m truly honored to have learned from so many of you. It was an amazing experience to have partnered with smart, bold, and dedicated community folks to experiment with projects like Teahouse, IdeaLab, Inspire, Individual Engagement Grants, and Reimagining Grants. I’ve seen you create some really incredible content, ideas, tools, programs, processes, committees and organizations, all in the service of free knowledge.
I expect my last day to be Thursday, February 25th. I have full confidence in Maggie Dennis's abilities to lead the Community Engagement Department, and I trust that my team will remain available to support the community’s needs for grants and other resources throughout this time of transition.
Much love, Siko

Dear Siko,
I wish you all the best! And I will allways remember your support and your inspiration during Wikimania 2015 in Mexico. My project "Women showing up with hard skills https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab/Women_showing_up_with_hard_skills" turned out to a "small" projekt in Berlin/Germany during a filmfestival called *Berlinale 2016*.
We are inviting women from film industry for a wikipedia introduction at 15th February 2016: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikimedia_Deutschland/WPFF_Berlinale...
If anyone wants to share it on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/1109666689073916/ :-)
We already expect about 60 participants. 20 Wikipedians and willing to wellcome these awespome people - we are alle really looking forward to and we exited about the event!
Thank you for empowerment!!
Yours WS_ReNu from Berlin/Germany
This is the third departure of a WMF employee who was involved with the 2015 Inspire Campaign. The other two were Luis Villa [1] and Anna Koval [2]. The response to that ideaLab campaign [3] figured significantly in the program of Wikimania 2015. [4] The Wikimania 2016 schedule for Esino Lario, however, seems to have few or no accepted submissions on community and governance, [5] and if I understand this correctly, there will be no Wikimania 2017. It's hard not to conclude that Wikimedia is transitioning away from being an open source community movement.

if I understand this correctly, there will be no Wikimania 2017.
My understanding, having been part of the recent discussion on Meta about the future of Wikimania, is that Wikimania 2017 will take place in Montreal as scheduled. Beyond that, the question is whether the next Wikimania will be in 2018 or ‘19, since one of the options under consideration is making it a biennial event rather than an annual one. Daniel Case
