We did a preliminary assessment of the first pilot's outcomes in December,
with very promising results (50+ new articles created, 10+ articles
promoted to GA, and solid plans for continuing work). Our plan is to
conduct a more detailed evaluation in August/September and include those
results in our annual report.

Systemic bias issues on Wikipedia are often exacerbated by the lack of
digital resources in certain subject areas. (Another reason for this
librarian to get annoyed when people say everything is online.....) The
book grant program is a great way to help address this.

Hello all! (Apologies for cross-posting!)
I’m pleased to announce the second round of Wikimedia DC Book Grants, a
pilot program in which we help provide editors with resources they need to
improve Wikimedia projects. If you live in the United States and actively
edit Wikimedia projects, you are eligible; you do not have to be a member
of WMDC or edit English projects.
Applications are open for one week, from today through Monday, April 4. We
expect to let people know by April 10 whether or not their grant request
has been funded.
More information is available on the Wikimedia DC website [1].
Apply for a grant here: https://podio.com/webforms/14722557/986696

Hello Everyone ,
I have the oppurtunity to curate we are wikipedia this week and I want to
use this oppurtunity to talk about gender and wikipedia and also i want to
use this oppurtunity to celebrate the women in wikipedia .
Let me know if you want to give shoutouts to people in your communities or
circles and if you have articles i should share
Warm Regards,
Chinmayi
Hello,
There is going to be the 2nd edition of a regional article contest CEE
Spring soon [1]
The concept (in a nutshell): every participating country from the region
creates the list of articles, covering some important issues, and
participants from other countries/language projects are to create the
articles in their own language. The lists are organized like this [2], so
you can see what language projects lack the article, say, about National
Festival of Polish Song in Opole [3]
Last year we had a separate category for notable women [4], but this year
there is a consensus that having a separate category is not okay, so it is
better to include the articles about notable women in the general
categories [5]
Today I have discovered that there is no article about [[Victoria
Woodhull]] in my home Wikipedia :(
To raise awareness to some special topic during Wiki Loves Monuments photo
contest, we in Ukraine had special nominations, for example, wooden
architecture [6], so I thought maybe something like that can be suggested
to the organizers of Wikimedia CEE Spring 2016. I mean having a separate
list of, I do not know, 'People marking turning points' or something like
that, and include there people that made difference (I would root for
having there representatives of all genders, not only girls). Winning there
can be awarded separately, the tricky thing would be to compose/balance the
list...
I reckon it won't be as controversial as having a separate category based
on sex.
But I wanted to have more thoughts about this idea of mine, so I shall be
grateful for your comments.
P.S. Sorry for a long letter.
