After multiple complaints by other editors about this, I decided to
bring an ANI. It might not be the best constructed one possible. And
maybe I'm not the best person to do it, being a little "too" outspoken
(I even make jokes!) and "controversial" with too many enemies (guys who
don't like women who stick to their opinions on hot topics?)
But the project is so disrupted I cannot even put up the resources page
because I know that it will be gutted down to zilch by one editor
especially if I do. (He's been wikihounding me and reverting me for over
a year and multiple complaints have come to naught.)

The community has to face the fact that this is the only Wikiproject
under attack.
Like I said, other projects don't permit it.
Can you imagine if it were permitted on the Palestine or Israel
wikiprojects and they were going at each other? Or the Christian and
LGBT? Absurd...
At least Mr. Wales agrees... sigh...

I'm sure many of you have seen this speech by Emma Watson to the United
Nations already, but it's a great call to action for men and boys to
support gender equality.

Dear all,
I'm curating @wearewikipedia this week - and interviewing Sue at 1600 UTC
on the on her experiences as a wikipedia editor working on gender-related
articles.
Of course, twitter is not the ideal platform for a deep chat on this issue,
but would be very happy if any of you would like to join, comment, retweet
etc. It will last about 45 minutes.
I hope to Storify and post the entire interview within a couple of days too.
Many thanks
Bishakha
Hi All,
At this year's Wikimania, over 40 Wikimedians helped prioritize ideas and
identified 7 key gender gap initiatives to work on.
We’ve created a page that summarizes gender gap strategy activities
to-date, lists the initiatives, and organizes teams:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Gender_gap_strategy
We realize not everyone who cares about this issue was there to
participate. We would love to get your input and support. *Please take a
look at the page and sign up if you're interested! *
Once teams are developed, we’ll be in touch to help brainstorm next steps
and help support you as initiatives move forward.
Thank you again for your commitment to addressing the gender gap!
Cheers,
Alex & Siko

Hello,
I'm doing a project at the moment, and writing a paper, that proposes a
Wikipedia Gender Index - like the United Nations Gender Inequality Index.
Essentially it will show the proportion of represented (existing article in
the Wiki, not editors) Genders over time (both historical time, and as
Wikipedia evolves), by language edition, by occupation, and by ethnic
group.
I want to be sensitive to the many categories of non-male and non-female
genders that exist in Wikipedia. Another balance is make the Index
compatible with the other indexes so we can compare. Some of those other
indexes are M/F. So the question is: it could be M/F/Other, M/F+Other
(Male/Non-male), M/F/All/the/other/categories. I don't say that any of
these are correct. I'm ask if you, or you know any researchers that has
studied these decisions and can advise.

Assuming that you are not studying the matter of gender self-identification
itself (i.e. the dynamics of the count of the very small number of people
who do not consider themselves either male or female), it seems to me that
a survey over time should tally (self-identified) MALE / FEMALE / DECLINE
TO RESPOND.
The "Decline to Respond" category will be extremely significant -- a far
bigger threat to generation of an accurate count than the loss of the
fraction of 1% of Wikipedians who consider themselves neither here nor
there on the matter of gender.
This is, of course, not particularly "sensitive to the many categories of
non-male and non-female genders that exist in Wikipedia," which you
apparently presume to exist a priori.

Subject: [Wikimedia-l] Upcoming help sessions for drafting Individual
Engagement Grant proposals
To: <wikimedia-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>

Hi all,
As we announced earlier this month[1], September is the month to apply for
an Individual Engagement Grant[2]. The deadline to submit a proposal is
September 30.
To help you turn your ideas and projects into successful proposals, we’re
hosting a few IdeaLab Proposal Clinics in Hangouts and IRC this month.[3]
The first one took place on September 16. Newcomers had a chance to talk to
current and past grantees, as well as WMF Grantmaking staff, to workshop
ideas and strengthen their proposals.
If you have an idea you would like to submit, but feel unsure about how to
draft or finalize your proposal, join a session! There are three events
left before the deadline:
* IRC office hours in #wikimedia-office - Sept 23, 1600 UTC (Tuesday)
* Hangout - Sept 25, 1700 UTC (Thursday) [4]
* Hangout - Sept 28, 1700 UTC (Sunday) [5]
Join us next week to discuss your ideas, and bring any questions you have
about IEG!
Cheers,
Siko

Dear wikimedians,
The Free and Open Source Souftware Outreach Program for Women offers paid
internships to developers and other technical profiles working on projects
together with free software organizations. Wikimedia is participating
again, and we welcome candidates.
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/FOSS_Outreach_Program_for_Women/Round_9
This call is open to Wikimedia volunteers (editors, developers...) and also
to people that would contribute for the first time in our projects. In the
past editions we have seen that candidates coming through a direct
recommendation have good chances of success. It is also known that many
good potential candidates will be reluctant to step in, but they will if
someone (like you) encourages them to apply, or to contact us with any
questions.
You can make a difference. If you know women with software development or
open source background / interest and full time availability between
December and March, please forward them this invitation. Thank you!
