Dear Friends,
I hope you are well and safe.
I wanted to present to you the final recommendations [1] from the Movement Strategy process. These recommendations clarify and refine the previous version, which was published in January this year. The team that finalized the content has reviewed and integrated the feedback provided by many of you and we remain grateful for your engagement and feedback.
We compiled a change log [2] to indicate the changes that were made to the previous draft of the recommendations. As mentioned earlier it was your feedback that resulted in these changes and improvement of the recommendations both in its content and in clarity.
On behalf of the Core Team of the Movement Strategy Process, I thank you for your active engagement and request you to share the recommendations with your communities.
Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to be of assistance,
Regards, [1]. https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2018-20/Recomme…. https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2018-20/Reports…

Dear All,
Over 17,000 images were submitted to Wiki Loves Africa this year ... this is due, in main, to the hard work of volunteers and usergroups across Africa. Thank you for those that have been involved so far!!
It is also a lot of images to judge. We want to get a global team together to go through the entries as a first review - to weed out the selfies, watermarked and time stamped images, etc…
Please, if you love photography and images, and have time between the 8th and 18th May 2020, volunteer to be on the First Review Team. Go to this form to find more information and enter your details here: https://forms.gle/aSLfLZfXDaADT7NMA <https://forms.gle/aSLfLZfXDaADT7NMA>
Thank you!! Please stay safe and well …
(Please excuse any cross posting)
warmest regards
Isla and Florence

Dear all,
I hereby share my dissertation on the above topic in the hope that it may
be of interest:

Thanks all,
in response to Asaf's question, I considered interviewing selected editors
but abandoned the idea when I found that I would have to submit a research
plan to the ethics committee and then wait for clearance. I was in a hurry
(having switched to this topic only about 5 months before the deadline) and
this dissertation came at the end of a very long journey of coursework
interrupted by work years.
However, as Ian shows, I could have just run a query and shown that two
specific champions made the difference.
The fact that just two dedicated editors made such a difference to the fate
of a language's Wikipedia poses a challenge to us, to find/recruit and
nurture such people. I am hoping that the newly created post of
Wikipedian-in-Residence based in the UNDP's Pretoria office will increase
the chances of this happening.
