Hi all,
I am happy this week because a Wikimedian from Africa, Felix Nartey was
named Wikipedian of the Year 2017 in Montreal.
What's making you happy this week?

Subject: [Wikiwomencamp] Rapid Grants Program Officer position at WMF
To: Participants in Wikiwomen Camp 2017 <wikiwomencamp(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hello WikiWomen!
We've launched a search for a program officer to oversee our Rapid Grants
program <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid>.
The role will oversee the grantmaking program from start-to-finish in a
timely fashion, responding to requests on an ongoing basis. It's an entry
level program officer job. We're looking for someone who has experience
living and working in global south countries, and ideally speaks English
and at least one other language. This grants program largely supports our
"emerging communities," mostly based in global south areas. The job can be
based anywhere.
Here's the job: https://boards.greenhouse.io/wikimedia/jobs/744200?gh_s
rc=vy7hqg1#.WYscc4pJk_X
Please share widely with folks you think would be interested. It would be
wonderful to have some great WikiWomen apply!
Cheers,
Alex

If your visa application was denied this year for Wikimania, guess what!
You're automatically joining next year's Wikimania. Now you know you've
been accepted to Wikimania 2018 in South Africa, I think we all have 365
days to get our Visa.
I'm yet to learn any embassy in the world with more than a year visa
application waiting time. ZA it is!
Nice move from the WMF. Thanks Katherine.

Dear African Wikimedians,
I trust this email finds you well.
For those attending Wikimania in Montreal and have enquiries regarding
affiliates (creation of User Groups, Chapters recognitions, any advice
regarding affiliates,...), you can book a meeting with the AffCom members,
following this link:

Dear all,
I hope you are well. I’m reaching out because, as we finish the last cycle
of the Movement Strategy process, I wanted to ask how you feel about having
a check-in meeting this Sunday, August 6th (similar to our previous Global
Reach Office Hours) for us to get together and talk.
I know this is a busy time for us all, but I want to make sure your voice
continues to be heard, represented, and to for you to know you have an open
line of communication through me into the strategy team if you want it. Please
let me know if you are OK with having a meeting this *Sunday, August 6th at
**17:30 UTC (20:30 Amman, 19:30 Joburg, 18:30 Lagos).*
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any
questions.
Thanks,
Jack
Hello everyone
Now that Wiki Loves Earth is mostly over... I think it is time to think
and plan Wiki Loves Africa 2017 :)
As a reminder, this year, 5 countries can ask funding in the same manner
than last year (Tanzania, Uganda, Ethipia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi), should
they decide to participate. Isla contacted them directly.
All other countries should ask funding through a Rapid Grant:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid
Please, do it at the earliest convenience. Even if Rapid Grant is
granted rapidly (eheh, love that), it will take a little while and
additional time is needed for the money to get in. As a reminder, WLAf
will be hold in October-November, so grant request should be done now.
If you plan to participate, please also mention it here :
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Africa_2017#Participating_countr…
If you need help, please get in touch !
-------
Bonjour
N'hésitez pas à me demander.
Flo
Thank you Jack for the excellent work.
I will share the time with my circle of influence. I know that my people
will be interested.
Best
Olushola
