If Brian Wolff's diagnosis is correct ( https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52556) this has nothing to do with GMail. (Nor does mailing list traffic originate from google servers, AFAIK.)
Just want to point that I am neither Brian Wolff nor would I call the bug report a diagnosis :-) -- it's just a guess.
