Yes, we should look at existing stuff for Git.

other than "let's spend several months on the backlog every time we want
to release".
Without meaning to put words in your mouth, I would also like to point
out that some of these better paradigms can be done with SVN just
fine. Maybe we will end up with an even better paradigm thanks to Git
(I personally think we will), but SVN is perfectly capable of
supporting something better than the ad-hoc non-paradigm we have now.
But more on that in its own thread, in its own time. I'd start a
discussion about this if I weren't so busy right now.
