I do agree that GlobalFunctions are somewhat outdated (although the calls are short and compact). Also some basic classes such as
WebRequest
or Xml or Http are not powerful enough. Perhaps some framework would

Before arguing whether or not we need a new framework, it is perhaps a good idea to talk about requirements. What is not powerful enough about MWHttp? What is outdated about GlobalFunctions? Could it be updated to meet web 2.0 TM requirements?
There was no http proxy support and no multipart post encoding support in Http class (I've had a hosting without php curl module). GlobalFunctions are compact and nice yet not object-oriented. Routing is not generalized enough, however is possible. Dmitriy
