True, Semantic MediaWiki supports OWL/RDF output, and RDF is (almost) a graph-based language. So that would be a format for encoding and exchanging graphs. The next thing is to find an application that displays them, and AFAIK there are a few projects that provide such functions (related to RDF, not to Semantic MediaWiki directly). Many RDF-Browsers have some very basic visualisation functions.
Anyway, my experience is that most graphs with more than 20 nodes just do not support nice visual layouting. Graph visualisation features typically are requested a lot, featured on many demos and screenshots, but hardly used in practice as soon as the data gets beyond toy size ;-). I do not see graph layouts on many social networking platforms either (though of course certain special kinds of graphs would work slightly better than general graphs).
