Ack! Sorry if my earlier mini-rant scared you off - it doesn't actually break anything, it just looks a bit peculiar in MediaWiki < 1.9.0.
You'll typically know if you make a breaking change to some of my code because I'll get even more sarcastic and hideous than usual and probably revert you with something snide.
