If I am incorrect (or for that matter, if I'm correct), I'd appreciate it if someone would point us to an official description of SUL.
Here's a description, though I have no way of knowing whether or not it's correct:
"The upcoming unified login system combines the user accounts for all of these projects. The greatest advantages are single sign-up (you don't have to create your account again on each new project you get involved with; your existing username comes with you) and consistent identity (your username now always means you; no one else can take your name on another project)."
"Registering a username reserves it everywhere; this means different users can no longer register the same account on different wikis. Users only need to set and confirm their email address in one account. Future changes may alert users when they have received a message on any wiki, but this is not yet available."

By the way, I was wrong when I said that unifying passwords and emails are not part of SUL. Unifying passwords and emails is part of SUL. Unifying of other preferences isn't.
"User preferences are local, although the email address only needs to be set and confirmed in one place. You can continue to have different preferences on different sites."
