This (additional magic variables) is another story. If you start thinking how
wiki knowledge propagates trough language communities how the distance between
large and startup communities gets greather and greather you may ask yourself
if this (core MediaWiki) is discrimantory or not. As a result functionality /
infrastructure is unavailable at the majority of the projects. What I never
understand is that oposition comes (mainly) from persons belonging to
communities having the most benefit because "workarounds" are (already)
available there, because they do not face particular problems (related to
characters, fonts, scripts etc.).
The patterns about aproaching this is the same here:
- "Is it good for me?" counts more then "Is it good for all?"
- "If I do not need this why others should need / have it?".
