Is there a cogent case for not automatically

There could be tens of thousands of them, and changing them
automatically may be slow and error-prone. Page moves need to be a
low-cost operation to make and to revert because we're very permissive
about letting people do them.
This is true, but you can still find out what double-redirects there and
enter them in a queue for later scheduled fixing or something...
Or, at least, you could display the list of redirects to the old name
after the move (if there are some), which is simple, but useful.
Currently, we display the hint that the user should check that, but if
such notice would be displayed _only_ if there would be some double
redirects (even better, along with their list), it would be great.
