Just to clarify why this doesn't solve the problem - if you have an
exception to the short way, you have to teach people the long way.
Hence, the short URL form is not standard and canonical, because it
won't always work. Hence, you have to mainly use the long, canonical,
form. And hence, you have a visible redirect like Brion has now
implemented.
