The reverted edit was a direct word for word paste from a website.

In your response about the copyvio yesterday, you said you couldn't count even 10 sentences that were taken word for word from a website. There should be zero. Cutting and pasting is never acceptable and will always be reverted.
So while deleting the entire article is an overkill, it's easy to understand why it happened. Avoid cutting and pasting, and make sure images are uploaded with the correct licences, and these problems will be avoided and you'll save yourself a lot of stress :)
