Bonjour,
I have a problem that I can't solve: when I want to purt a word in italic in a link, the link doesn't work anymore...
ie.
Contenu de la Lilavati works
Contenu de la Lilavati doesn't work: iit is displayed "verbatim" with the two square brackets and Lilavati is in italic though.
Thank you.

That's expected. Syntax for italics can't be within a link like that. Try Contenu de la Lilavati

This is a "half solution": the link is correct but not the title of the page it refers to: italics do not appear in the title of the page.

This is the expected behavior. The page title is unformatted text. And even when we could expand it to the heading of the page, what would you do with the browser title bar?

Currently page titles can't contain any formatting, or many special symbols. This has been discussed on this list before and the general consensus seemed to be that allowing the capitalisation of the first letter to be specified, and allowing italics would be improvements. However, nothing has yet been implemented AFAIK.

There is an option of alternative titles in MediaWiki, but this option is disabled on Wikimedia sites (IIANM). But some wikis use CSS+JavaScript workarounds for that, see e.g. http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Titolo_errato a similar trick could be used for italics.
