Apologies if this is answered somewhere on the MediaWiki site. I have looked around, and posted my question on the relevant talk page without result.
When adding an XML tag extension, is there any support for attributes?
If an XML tag extension transforms the content into regular Wiki markup and passes it to the parser, will the links created get picked up by "What links here"?

Not yet.

It should, I think, but no guarantees. Try it and see.
