Hi all,
I want to inform you that we started a new project called Huggle WA, it's a
web interface based version of popular utility Huggle. It is being
developed by original huggle developers and some other devs and everyone
else, who is interested in this project. Production version and development
server is going to be hosted by wikimedia labs. The tool is probably going
to use OAuth for authentication as soon as it is available and its goal is
to allow anyone with browser to use the utility.
Main benefits include:
- no need to update sw (updates are being done on server)
- no need to download anything or need to have extra permissions on
computer you want to use
- easy access, from any pc
The binary version is still in development, and it's going to be supported
together with the web version. Both versions are going to be compatible, so
that all your settings and history will be transferred from one to other.
In case you are interested in this project, reply here, or join #huggle on
freenode and ask there!
Huggle is an application for dealing with vandalism on
Wikipedia, it
is supported on any wmf project where they request it to be enabled.
Its purpose is to easily deal with any kind of vandalism, including
sysop tools, like rollback or block.

We started like... today :) so there is no working
demo, however since
I am a developer of current application which is written in c#, it's
probably clear that I don't understand development of web applications
very well, the reason why this project exist is that some guys who do
understand it came with the idea and I help them with maintenance and
php code. I definitely don't understand html, css and javascript. Only
I can help with is php, so anyone else who can join and help is
welcome! I am basically trying to lead the web developers the way
which the web app will be 100% compatible with current binary version,
since I know how does it work. I would prefer to use even same
localization files as we use for application, since there is a
translation for more than 15 languages already completed and all text
should be same.

This is a big deal and I'm glad it's happening.
Huggle has at least thousands of users, I'm guessing (Petr, perhaps you
have a better number?) but until now it's only worked on Windows. As a
web app, it'll enable vandalism patrollers on Linux, Macintosh, and
tablets as well. So, this is great news!
Petr, there are folks at the Foundation who are interested in helping
out with the UI and with helping you make sure that the web-based
version works well on mobile. So I'm cc'ing them. Best of luck!
