But do we have a plan for improving Gerrit in a substantial way?
Hi everyone,
In my response to Steven at the time [1], I indicated that we have a modest contractor budget for this work. The RFP is now posted here: http://hire.jobvite.com/Jobvite/Job.aspx?j=o4gIWfwI&c=qSa9VfwQ
Please let me know if you're interested (and apply if you're really interested). Also, please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks! Rob

While I do not envy whatever person we hire for this, ;-) I definitely want to say thank you Rob, for investing some resources here. I'll try to help spread the word about this contract.

Great news, Rob. Looking forward to someone making Gerrit better for us.

Hi,
do you still search for a Gerrit contractor? I'd very much like to apply for this position. I'm living in Switzerland but I have good experiences working with US developers on Apache projects.
I'm currently working on packaging Gerrit for Debian: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=589436
You can see my CV here: http://www.koch.ro/temp/thomas_koch_developer.pdf

FYI, see http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2013-February/066466.html
I'm not sure if there's interest in hiring a another person for gerrit work at this point. At any rate you are certainly welcome to contribute to Gerrit related (or other) efforts within Wikimedia. You should come on #wikimedia-tech @ freenode if you want to coordinate efforts. (keep in mind that some WMF staff will be busy this week with meetspace events so may be less responsive on lists / IRC)

That's great. Jessie seems like a long time from now. I guess we would just pull from Ubuntu though.

Thomas, thank you for writing to us and mentioning that you're available for work! I'd love for you to take a look at the Wikimedia Foundation's job openings. For most of them, telecommuting is fine. In particular, since you're interested in Java and have experience with Lucene, please look at our opening for a search engineer:
http://hire.jobvite.com/Jobvite/Job.aspx?j=ogk1Wfwh&c=qSa9VfwQ
And since you're interested in MySQL and big data, check out our opening for a database administrator:
http://hire.jobvite.com/Jobvite/Job.aspx?j=obMOWfwr&c=qSa9VfwQ
We have several more job openings (multimedia engineers, director of user experience, engineer specializing in the parser, and so on) listed at jobs.wikimedia.org.
Oh, and I noticed that you have some OTRS expertise -- could you maybe check out https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22622 and let us know if you have some free time to volunteer your help? :-)
Cheers, Sumana

That's a bit misleading, as only a couple of them offer a remote position (out of 19)

Is it really something where volunteers can help? I thought it wasn't possible (private mail concerns blocking volunteer action).
BTW, why is WMF looking for a WordPress Developer? I think that if we outgrew the current blog, the way to go would be to mediawikize it, not to make something new still based in WP.
