I'd like to aggressively pursue getting 1.5 finished and out the door so we can have a freer hand in setting things up for the coming infrastructure changes.
Beta testing will begin on May 1, 2005.
1.5.0 release will be June 1, 2005.
Any new features need to be either *working* or *disabled in default configuration* real soon.

Brion,
Beta testing will begin on May 1, 2005. 1.5.0 release will be June 1, 2005.
thanks for the update.
So, out of naivity: how does the process work concerning the incorporation of enhancement patches?
I continued my work on read-access controlled pages (see http://mail.wikipedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2005-March/028105.html for my first approach). The second version abandoned the idea of hiding individual pages and deals with namespaces instead.
My (experimental) patch for HEAD and 1.4 is attached to bug 1924 (http://bugzilla.wikipedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1924). By default, the feature is turned off and should not have any side effects.
I understand that this will never be activated on the Wikipedia sites, but I've seen several enhancement requests for something like this, so I think there is an interest for this that goes beyond myself.
I'd really appreciate it if the patch could be incorporated into 1.5 before the door closes.
Thanks,
MaPhi

Enhancement patches may or may not get integrated, depending on time, interest, code cleanliness, bugginess, etc.

Read access restrictions are a really, really low priority. I personally have no interest in seeing such a feature in MediaWiki, though others might take a crack at your patch.

Where will the first beta-testing be? I would like to take a look to see whether/where the bot needs to be adapted (and fill in the odd bug report too, if I happen to come across something).

I guess you could apply for a bot account on http://test.leuksman.com/
Ciao, Michael.

You certainly saw me uploading to http://bugzilla.wikipedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454 (ENotif and the other "zoo"). As the whole "zoo" now works, I now can offer breaking it down into smaller subject-oriented patches which might suit you. However, such a step requires additional time.
Perhaps you can make a concession and accept my offer. Wikinaut Tom

Sure Tom, I freely "accept your offer" for you to do the thing I've been asking you to do: provide individual, manageable patches for specific issues.

Now, where you know all my patches at once (the 454 bugzilla) ...
I'd like to ask you for extending my deadline for the "patchlets" until +/- May 10th. = you will get each patchlet, as soon it is ready, but the last one on this date at the latest.
Can you also agree on that ? This will suits _me_ and I'll be happy with such a time schedule
Tom
