Is there any way to generate a table of contents to disaplay on the main page och any special page.
I am using MediaWiki for documentation and dictionary on our intranet and a good overview of all the topics would be great.
Any work done on this kind of feature?

Put __TOC__ in the article text where you want it och observe the effect;)

Quite good, but not exactly what I was looking form. I want to be able on the Main Page put in a complete index of all pages in the wiki like:
Main Page Main Page:About Main Page:What is this Help Help:How to add and edit pages Help:Syntax
and so on...

Or are you (Peter) possibly looking for [[Special:Allpages]]? If you need a fancier directory of all your content, you'd probably have to start with Special:Allpages and build a categories tree from there.

Yes! That's it. I would have hope for something fancier though but this is ok. Maybe I can use that and modify it to something that is more useful and goodlooking.
I can admit I am quite new to MediaWiki so I'm sorry for all the stupid questions. /peter

Not at all. You're VERY welcome -- and besides, you provided me with the rare opportunity to help someone on this list: Most of the time I'm rather more likely to be asking questions here rather than answering them. ;-) So thank you :)

I don't think so.
You have a couple of options I can think of:
1. Make a category tree, and have a "top" category. Include this top category on your Main Page as a template. That'd just give you an _index_ of all categories, though -- not a ToC. 2. Do a Table of Contents by hand. 3. Add an extension to do it.

I stole a great Idea from some Thomas
http://www.homeopathy.at/wiki/index.php?title=Vorlage:HelpBar
HELP-BAR or NAVI-BARS
I create for each Name-Space on my WIKI a NAVI-BAR and use the {{VORLAGE}} to put that in
In Addition I have a page with all {{Vorlagen}} to have overview and quick access to extend them
http://www.homeopathy.at/wiki/index.php?title=Vorlagen:%C3%9Cbersicht
thats a great help vor navigation within the namespaces
