http://www.lighttpd.net/ claims that Wikipedia is using this web server. The HTTP headers coming from Wikipedia server are not consistnet with this claim, and show that WIkipedia uses Apache. I've also noticed that Tim Starling has contributed to Apache (and not Lighhttpd) suggesting some bug fixes which could help Wikimedia wikis run smoother. So here is the question: Which web server is Wikimedia really using? And if it is not Lighhttpd, would somebody mind if I try to tell Lighttpd guys remove that false claim from their pages?

The main wiki sites use Apache as they have lots of customized configuration (for example subdomains and rewrite rules) and it would be difficult to convert them to lighthttpd.
The download.wikimedia.org server uses lighthttpd, probably because there are a lot of heavy files so it needs to be optimized.

We use both. The author of lighttpd, Jan Kneschke, is a nice guy, we've met him both on IRC and in real life (at Wikimania 2005). He has often worked with us directly to debug problems we've had with lighttpd on the site. I can't say the same for any Apache developer. I have no problem with his use of our name.

OK Tim. With the way you respect this guy, and the way I respect you, there is nothing left to say!
Cordially,
