It's been so long since I've directly accessed the server that I've forgotten the root password and misplaced my copy of the communications software used to "ssh" my way in.

Which is better, to regain this access -- or just submit the following request?

Christopher Mahan wants his Wikipedia username changed from 'Chris Mahan' to 'Christopher Mahan' -- in such a way that his edit history (i.e., user contributions) remains easily accessible.

By the way, I had told him that "working the system" to get his name-change accomplished would be a sign that he was a good sysop candidate. So I'd like to take care of this for him promptly.
