Hello,
Last January 12, some web technology enthusiasts attend the first MediaWiki meetup / orientation in Makati City, Philippines.
Here is the photo from fb: https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/71495_101512067261443...
Part of the things discussed is having a workshop for aspiring developers. Since our community is in its infancy and there is scarcity of subject matter experts, may we ask your assistance in planning and developing this outreach workshop.
Part of the assistance include:
1. Having a resource speaker / guru to train and assist our future local tech trainers 2. Creation of a workshop module that include exercises and practice tests
Depending on the outcome of our plan, we are targeting to have this started this April in time on our Summer break. Summer in the Philippines coincides with Spring in other places in the northern hemisphere.
Thank you.
Hello Butch!

I saw that picture and was happily surprised. Thank you for sharing! We RT/reshared through https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Social_media

This is a good chance for an independent / 3rd party MediaWiki expert. At the Wikimedia Foundation we don't have anybody dedicated to a task like this.
Please consider to define a proposal to organize such training in Philippines and get it funded through the appropriate channel at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Start
I don't know if there is a way to get participation support for attending http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Amsterdam_Hackathon_2013 but that could be another option to get one person of your team well connected with the rest of the community.
- Creation of a workshop module that include exercises and practice tests
As far as I know we don't have (and we would wish to have) a Training landing page pointing to all the useful and up to date resources.
There is plenty of materials and wiki pages, but it's not trivial to find them, identify the ones that still valid and relevant and use them coherently through a training program.
Then again maybe this is a chance for somebody willing to take this task, and there might be opportunities for granting.
NOTE: I'm not involved in any of the grants activities but if someone asks me I will definitely express my support for initiatives improving our documentation and training materials.
Depending on the outcome of our plan, we are targeting to have this started this April in time on our Summer break. Summer in the Philippines coincides with Spring in other places in the northern hemisphere.
If you move fast you might get a fast response. It won't be easy but you are pointing to a need that I'm sure other locations have as well.
By the way, please consider the creation of a MediaWiki Group in your city. Proposing a group is easy and it will help connecting your efforts to the rest of the community.

Hi Butch and Quim
I think Hangout will be one option for doing such type of activity. any expert can address via Hangout.
Thanks Harsh

Thanks for the suggestion Quim and Harsh.
We can organize a hangout at any Saturday of our choice (starting Feb 16).
Though we are aware of the bountiful of materials available on the web, we are facing a challenge of making it simpler (like infographics) to persons starting to learn mediawiki. When we provide the tutorial links to our potential students, they are overwhelmed. So making it like a typical workshop module (like Session 1, Session 2.. etc) is a good strategy.
