Mozex (http://mozex.mozdev.org/) should be pretty close to what you're looking for- you can edit textareas in your favourite text editor for example. Another nice tool along those lines is the zope external editor, but that requires a webdav save method (and i'm pretty shure there's no such thing in mediawiki now).
