Chris, that's a good point: it does LOOK as if running free software is some sort of disadvantage.
Please suggest an alternative phrasing which * explains succintly why all our software is "free", and * explains why this is an advantage

I would suggest
"Although software is free hardware is not, and with just two servers donated by Wikimedia founder Jimbo Wales we simply cannot maintain the reliability and speed that our projects need."
There's no need to include a copy of the GNU manifesto :)
