Hi all, next week there will be a Wikipedia presentation in Italy [1] where we will offer the opportunity to browse Wikipedia from a group of public pc. The problem is: probably we will only have one/two GPRS card for the internet connection, so we think there will be a problem because of the low bandwidth.
I can install a squid trasparent proxy, but i don't know how to populate the cache; i wish i could "download in the cache" at least all the images stored on commons, in order to save a lot of bandwidth. How can i do?

Are you really thinking in downloading the 638,763 file Wikimedia Commons store?? Moreover, only a little part of the images will be used... I suggest you to do some random caching-browsing from a good connection before, so you get the Pagina principale, Portale comunità, Bar... with all its images, teh logo and the stub templates images... Those which will probably queried. If an image is on one article, only try getting it if someone gets to such article. If you really have bandwidth problems, you may even want to block image downloading... (but people will be expecting an imaged encyclopedia :( ).
Godd luck with the Festambiente. Platonides
