Dear FOSDEM organization team,
On behalf of the MediaWiki project I hereby make a request for a dev room during FOSDEM 2009 on 7 and 8 Feb 2009. This request is also sent to the MediaWiki developers list to prevent duplicate requests.
Project name: MediaWiki
URL of the website of the project: http://www.mediawiki.org
Description of the project(s) (will be put on website when accepted): MediaWiki is a free software wiki package originally written for Wikipedia. It is now used by over 700 projects of the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation and by many other wikis. MediaWiki has an active development community with about 70 regular committers and a few dozen patch contributors. MediaWiki is free server-based software which is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). MediaWiki is an extremely powerful, scalable software and a feature-rich wiki implementation, that uses PHP to process and display data stored in its MySQL database. It is designed to be run on a large server farm for a website that handles up to 65,000 requests per second, and can also be used for small scale implementations. MediaWiki supports over 300 languages and has a fair localisation in over 100 languages, and an almost complete localisation in 70 languages. MediaWiki is easily extended and almost 1,000 extensions have been documented on the project's website.
Name of devroom responsible and role in the project: Siebrand Mazeland, i18n/L10n developer
Additional information: * we expect 15-20 developers, and would like to have a room that would hold about 50 people * we are open to share a dev room with other wiki projects and/or similar web based applications
Thank you for considering the above request.
Kind regards,
Siebrand Mazeland
