OpenHistoricalMaps is a totally crazy project. The idea is to attach to each point in the OSM database two new keys start_date and end_date.
Potentially that means folks will be able to create maps of a city as it was at any given point in time and maybe one day let us generate animation of cities growing or road network expanding over time. That is surely going to take a massive effort but will definitely be amazing to better understand the live we live in.
