I've started an RFC about making password requirements stronger, in a workable way that is configurable by group.

Thanks, Matthew. This strikes me as something the enterprise community might also want to chime in on, so I'm cc'ing the mediawiki-enterprise list. Please discuss onwiki. Thanks.

I've posted at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_%28technical%29#Passwor... . I encourage people to publicize the RFC on other wikis.

I really don't see the drawbacks to making the settings more configurable as long as it defaults to currently configured settings for a wiki. As long as what would trigger a forced password change can be controlled by the end user of the software, I can't think anything that should stop development.
