I realize full well that obsessing about one's edit summaries is a sign of, well, obsession, and I'm not about to propose a way of editing them, but given that their formatting rules are subtly different from normal wikitext (special treatment of /* */, evidently no treatment of ''...'', automagic insertion of the → character, etc.), it seems like it would be nice (but also benign) to show a preview of the edit summary along with the rest of the page when doing Show Preview. Is this too goofy an idea?

I just committed a change to do exactly that a couple of days ago. It should go live within a few days, whenever someone decides to resynchronize the sites with the codebase.

Wow! Instant service! Thanks! (Was this you predicting the future, i.e. knowing that I was about to ask, or just a case of great minds thinking alike? :-) )

. . . and it should be live.
Hi! Could you tell me, which page is to be localised to have the "Summary preview" text in a local language? Regards, Dami

Why only when doing Show Preview? Surely a bit of either client-side JavaScript or AJAX can show the preview right underneath the Summary textbox and get updated live?

Excellent idea if I knew anything about Ajax except "it sends stuff back and forth with JavaScript and XML". ;) Plain JS I could do, though, I guess, if there aren't any evil bits of the parsing that just aren't occurring to me.
Incidentally, kudos to whoever added the "(Briefly describe the changes you have made):" text. Something so obvious that I guess no one thought of it. :)
