O rly? I recall the old box had various spamfiltering set up on it. SpamAssassin with a pretty high threshold set.
(I was about to suggest greylisting, but that's probably a really bad idea for oversight-l ...)

It would certainly make the moderators' job much easier if there was less spam coming in. We probably miss quite a few good messages in the quagmire of spam, and end up discarding the lot.
