Hi all, For the past few days I've been experiencing this frustrating issue with my account in the Greek Wikipedia (http://el.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ferengi). I'm unable to edit several pages, since every time I try to access an edit link, I get instead a prompt to save index.php. An example of what actually gets saved is below:
[Process] Type=Edit text Engine=MediaWiki Script=http://el.wikipedia.org/w/index.php Server=http://el.wikipedia.org Path=/w Special namespace=Ειδικό
[File] Extension=wiki URL=http://el.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%CE%98%CE%AC%CE%BD%CE%BF%CF%82_%CE...
This only happens when I'm logged in, if I log off I can edit pages without issues. This issue is not browser specific, as I have tried IE7 and FF2 on one PC and IE6 on another, both with WinXP SP2, and IE7 on a virtual machine with Server 2008 beta, and in all cases I had the same results. I also had my monobook.js deleted in case it was causing trouble, but that didn't fix anything. Any ideas?

I see this from time to time on the English wikipedia. I believe it happens when the wiki and/or my network are extremely bogged, such that the wikipedia server doesn't even manage to send the first bit of the HTTP response (the bit indicating that the response is HTML even though the URL doesn't end in ".html") before the server and/or my browser times out, and my browser decides that "index.php" is an unknown Content-Type which it might as well let me save.
This sort of problem might be more likely when you're logged in, because the wikipedia server is much more likely to have to rerender the page for you (with your own personalized buttons across the top) rather than tossing you one out of its (squid) cache.
I think I was seeing this more often a couple of weeks ago, when we were struggling with various too-complicated nested templates which were taking waaaaaaaayyyyy too long to render.

It sounds like you have "Use external editor by default" (Χρήση εξωτερικού επεξεργαστή από προεπιλογή) enabled in your preferences. Switching that off should fix it.
