I set the language to "de" but i have the strange effect that not everything is translated. e.g. i see "contributions" but the rest is in German.
no idea, i checked the code the translation are complett.

Additional information: It seems that the language setting in LocalSettinsg.php is broken somehow (after may updates). By accident i found that setting the user-language via preferences works. It does not matter if i swich from "de" -> "de-formal" or "de-formal" -> "de". In both cases the expected behavier is restored.
I am willing the help to debug that if somebody is telling me where to look.

Try running rebuildLocalisationCache.php or rebuildmessages.php.
In general for broken local installs, asking on IRC (e.g. #mediawiki) is best because people can help you debug the issue in realtime. There's also https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Support_desk which tends to be more lively than this mailing list.
