I'm thinking about simplifying logo updates by simply using
$wgLogo = $wgUploadPath.'/b/bc/wiki.png';
This way all the users need to do is uploading the image to Image:Wiki. png. The image should probably be protected, but that's up to the sysops.
This might also be a sensible default in DefaultSettings.php, we'd need to supply images/b/bc/Wiki.png in that case.
Any thoughts?

Is it currently possible to protect an image? Does that actually prevent new uploads (as opposed to preventing edits to the description page)?

It indeed wasn't, but i just coded it.
While i was at it, i also added a warning that is triggered if the filename already exists. Translators: 'fileexists' => 'A file with this name exists already, please check $1 if you are not sure if you want to change it.', ($1 = link to the existing image page)
The warnings are now listed as an ul with class warning, some red exclamation mark icon could be added in front of the li's with css, a nice small project for somebody willing to experiment with the user css (and finds a nice icon ;-). Desktop icon themes like the kde crystal might have nice ones we could use.
Cheers
