I need help for getting the <charinsert> .... </charinsert> tags working in my local Mediawiki.Copryrightwarning
What I did already
1. copied [1] to my local wiki page:Mediawiki:Copyrightwarning 2. copied [2] from CVS to /mywiki/extensions) 3. command inserted in LocalSettings.php: include ($IP."/extensions/CharInsert.php");
but I still cannot click onto one of the special characters.
Is there anyone who can assist me, please ? T.

You need to be more detailed. Why can't you click them? Are they not there? Are they not links? Can you in fact click on them, but nothing happens? What happens instead? Is there a JavaScript error? Have you examined the HTML output? Have you tried variations of the page? What's the exact text you tried running? Did you purge or save the page after installing the extension? Is this page on the internet where others could look at it?

Are they not there?
The <charinsert> tags are not translated to javascriptlets on a page X: The HTML of a page X action=edit shows _still_ the <charinsert> ... </charinsert> tags.
But the HTML of and the rendered page Mediawiki:Copyrightwarning show the <a href="javascript:insertTag()"....>... </a> scriptlets
mediawiki version 1.3.11 Did I overlook something ? Why aren't they replaced by the javascript ?
Brion: please take note, that I only included the CharInsert.php as Magnus told me - see step 3 above. I am puzzled, why there isn't a call to it, is this the problem ?

In MediaWiki 1.3, the copyrightwarning message is raw HTML, so no interpretation of wikitext (such as extensions) will occur. I wrote the CharInsert extension to continue to provide the insert capability when it was switched from raw HTML to wikitext in 1.4.

Brion, I could quickly check it with CVS HEAD 1.5: it works very well with 1.5, too. Thanks for your help. Tom
