Hello,
Last year there where a lot of discussions about projects inside wikimedia that needed to be renamed. The last thing I can remember is that it wasn't possible at that time. However I would like to know if something changed since the last discussion?
There are like 5 or 6 projects under discussion that /could/ be renamed, so the question remains: Is it possible?

Easily, no. There was some discussion recently for the ones that needed it was to create the new one, import the old one into it and then setup pointers so the old ones were redirected.
We currently has about 11 waiting to be renamed: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19986

Anything's possible, the question is whether it's worth doing, considering the complexity of the task and the size of the shell requests backlog.
I don't think it's worth doing if someone with root access has to do everything manually. But if some interested developer wrote a script to do the bulk of the tasks, and documented the procedure for the rest of the tasks, then I think these requests could be processed.
