Hi folks,
I spent most of today getting wikipedia3 up and running on my (currently
private development) server. Functionally, all seems to be working well.
(Given that I'm a PERL and PostgreSQL kind of gal, I consider the working
install to be nothing short of a small miracle!)
My big challenge at present is to figure out how to substantially change
the design of the site. From what I can see, that design is determined by
the combination of the style sheets, Skin.php, and OutputPage.php. It
looks like a small nightmare to fuss with.
Is there some approach that might make it relatively easy or even somewhat
easier?
It was/is my intent that the article content put out by OutputPage.php
be totally generic, with labelled semantic markup, whose physical
appearance is controlled /entirely/ by the stylesheet. This makes it
serve faster, makes it cacheable, etc. Likewise, things like sidebars
outside the article content are controlled by the Skin, which should
also output semantic markup controlled by the stylesheet.
To the extent the above is not true, it represents a failure on my part
that will be fixed at some point, so if it's not possible for you to
get the look you want without changing the article markup, please
report that as a bug.
