Hello, there!
As I am just newbie in Wikimedia I'd like to ask some question. WikiPedia has few sister projects (ie WikiQuote, WikiNews, WikiBooks). Are they based on the same engine MediaWiki and have their particular knowledge database or there is something else?

They use the same MediaWiki software, but obviously have separate databases.
