Hello,
I would like to say that actually we have a single point of faillure. The DB server. We only have one dual-opteron and geoffrin is not yet back. We 'really' need a backup db server which could replace the actual one. None of the others servers could do that. Jimbo, if you can, try to move those things, or think about getting another dual-opteron.
Thanks

What have you got in mind about raising the money that machine would cost?
thanks Manfred
Thanks

First, we still have over $20,000 in the bank which could be used for such things.
Second, geoffrin will be here soon. I have heard that Penguin is doing an extended burnin until Friday, as they want to get it right for us.
Third, there was an unfortunate breakdown in communication somewhere on our end, as gunther has been installed and available for Brion to use to setup a replicated db, and of course Gunther is suitable (5 gig of RAM, dual Opteron) to run the database. Until yesterday, though, he did not know that.
Therefore, as of today, we have gunther available and perhaps running in replication mode (if Brion had the chance to set it up). Next week we will get Geoffrin, I hope.
And money is in the bank to buy whatever we deem necessary. I see no reason to spend the money early if we don't need to spend it, but on the other hand, we need not be cheapskates. I asked the world for $20,000 to get wikipedia to be fast and reliable, and the response was overwhelming. Our donors *want* us to spend the money, but wisely, to give them what they want.

I copied the files over last night (not fully synced yet), but haven't had a chance to set it up yet. This is somewhat complicated by Gunther being in use as a MySQL server for Bomis stuff, which I believe I'm not supposed to overwrite.
