I use Eclipse [1] with the PHPEclipse plugin and a cvs one. It is a java IDE based on plugin and I use it as well for C++ projects.

For debuging I use the internal MediaWiki system, print_r() php function. Also use Advanced Php Debugger [3] together with kcachegrind [4] a kde frontend to valgrind.

Finally I got installations of all mediawiki versions (1.3, 1.4beta, 1.4, custom head and head) to test them :)
