A nice post about using Semantic MediaWiki as an Enterprise Architecture Repository (or EAR) at the Danish National Library: < http://www.josefassad.com/enterprise_architecture_repository_with_semantic_m...
The author is currently on #mediawiki (as Josef-ddb). He seems to think that EAR is a niche currently populated by overpriced and underpowered commercial behemoths, and that SMW could be competitive in this domain, but that people might need a bit of help to make the connection between EAR requirements and SMW capabilities.

Great use case! I've already invited the author to SMWCon conference, hopefully he'll be able to attend and we'll have a video with further explanation.
Honestly, it's the first time I hear about EAR and Zachman Framework. Isn't that just an enterprise documenting system or does it have any special features for enterprises? The description of EAR looks pretty much like the enterprise wiki, such as TWiki or SMW+.
I also think that mediawiki-enterprise mailing list would be interested in that. ----- Yury Katkov, WikiVote

Danes Digital Libraries (Danskernes Digitale Bibliotek) in fact, not the National Library. :)

We intend for our SMW based EAR to be public in fairly short order. I'll ping this list when that happens if there's interest.
Nice to see you here, Josef!
Do you have any plans to provide your EAR to the companies as business solution or part of the consulting service? If so, there is now a list of companies that create their software packages based on MW here, don't hesitate to add yourself here: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Professional_development_and_consulting ----- Yury Katkov, WikiVote

We're a public sector organisation, so no we don't have plans along those lines.
As the linked blog post suggests, we're happy being as open as possible concerning how we're EAR-ifying SMW. So having a public instance illustrating the SMW structuring and use patterns should help other organisations - commercial or otherwise - achieve something similar.

Right now, absolutely nothing hand-made beyond having the right properties/categories/templates/forms in SMW. We're actively trying to avoid deep changes. Part of the reason is to improve system sustainability. Another part is, we're not php programmers. :)
The enterprise architecture we're reflecting in our SMW is composed of predominantly open source systems, so it comes naturally that we'd release anything we end up writing ourselves. We're very loath to do that, however. We prefer a) using established extensions, b) bug reports and/or enhancement requests (i.e. working through the community)=, c) documenting our work so it is replicable by other actors, and d) scoping the EAR to the extent SMW serves without deep customization (i.e. sacrificing a feature we might need if it requires too much coding).
It's still a very young system we're working with, so I can't tell you much more right now than, that it gives us a really good level of flexibility in defining our EA model and populating it with the appropriate metadata and structure. And eventually running governance queries like "if I change this integration protocol, which systems and which users are affected" or "give me a list of the system components which are not under OSI approved licenses".

I like Josef Assad's explanation of SMW in place of the "big load of do-not-care" on its Wikipedia page :
Semantic Mediawiki allows you to attach properties to wiki pages. And to
query the pages based on these properties.
It doesn't quite capture the elephant (e.g. you add these properties with wiki markup around existing links and values on the page), but it's short and sweet.
How soon will this EAR equivalent come in a cardboard box to "sell for amounts of money so vast that the base license includes the very souls of [at least one] fairly recent management school grads"?
