Hi ,
Does anyone has any idea as to how to add a new tab to the existing tabs (article, discussion, edit and history) to the wikipedia page.I have the mediawiki installed and the database dump imported. Now i wana tweak and make additions to wikipedia. I have very little idea of php but am ready to learn the advance concepts as the need may arise.

You make additions to Wikipedia at http://wikipedia.org. Don't call your site Wikipedia, or you would be violating trademark law.
That said, have a look at Magnus Manske's validation feature; it adds a new tab, 'validate', to every page.

On the English Wiktionary I've added a new tab using javascript. The code is here: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/User:Hippietrail/monobook.js
Look for the function "addCiteTab"
Good luck.

Hi Candy.
I don't really know all the options since perhaps you're running your own wiki but I've just made some code that any user can use to add a tab to an existing wiki that she does not own.
My js is not global but could be. Currently just the people who are interested in it put a copy in their own js page. Not all skins support custom per-user js. I know monobook does and classic doesn't. I'm not sure about the others.

You can use the js code by placing it on the page [[MediaWiki:Monobook.js]] on your wiki. Not a file in your file system; a wiki page. However, note that it will only work in the Monobook skin. Since other skins don't use tabs at all, you will have to find a different way for those, or just not care about the few people who don't use Monobook.
